Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC
First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the SAR Government for appointing me as the Chairman of the Tuen Mun District Fire Safety Committee, allowing me to promote educational work continuously beyond my capacity as a primary school principal.
The work of education is both significant and ongoing, and the Fire Safety Committee indeed plays an essential educational role. Unlike the Fight Crime Committee, which focuses on addressing crime, our committee lays great emphasis on the concept of prevention aiming to avoid any fire accidents from happening. As a matter of fact, once a fire breaks out, even if it is efficiently extinguished by our dedicated firefighters, the damage, not only to the public and private property, but also to the community environment, still can be substantial. Therefore, taking proactive measures to prevent fire are of great importance and are closely related to our educational efforts as well.
Hence, the committee has established a "Public Education Working Group," which is responsible for coordinating various promotional activities in response to specific locations and occasions. Furthermore, organizing competitions, visits, lectures, and exhibitions is another key area we work on so as to raise the fire safety awareness at both school and community levels. Last but not least, the fire safety training conducted regularly by professional firefighters for citizens from all walks of life can definitely serve an educational purpose as well.
As the Chairman, I have quite a lot of opportunities to communicate with firefighters due to official duties. Before the end of my term of office, I often jokingly wish them a not busy workday always, implying that the community is safe and free from any danger. Nevertheless, I fully understand that firefighters do have numerous responsibilities, including inspecting fire safety equipment in public areas. After all, the educational initiatives we undertake are, in many ways, similar to the mission of educators. Let us, the members of the Fire Safety Committee, continue to join hands with the Fire Department to maintain a safe community, ensuring that citizens can live and work peacefully.
Finally, on behalf of the residents of Tuen Mun District, I would like to extend my heartfelt respect and appreciation to all our dedicated firefighters. Thank you.
