Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC
District Fire Safety Committee (Tsuen Wan District) has dedicated itself to the promotion of fire safety to residents in the district since its establishment. We closely collate insights and intelligence from community leaders and local personalities, the Fire Services Department and the Tsuen Wan District Office, as well as solicit assistance and cooperation from various local organisations and District Care Teams, etc. We offer constructive views on fire prevention strategies to the Government aiming to enhance the fire safety of buildings to safeguard the lives and properties of citizens.
Tsuen Wan District is a diversified place integrated with urban and rural culture. It was the first new town in the New Territories developed by the Government since 1960s. It now has a population of more than 300,000. Apart from the development of industrial, commercial and residential buildings in the town centre, Tsuen Wan has also retained many beautiful countryside in rural area, making it a good place for hiking and outings.
To arouse residents' awareness on fire prevention and allow us to embrace our natural beauty, it is the Committee's first priority to bolster the publicity work on fire safety. We organise a series of promotional and educational activities through different forms and channels, including fire drills in private buildings, large-scale fire disaster rescue demonstrations, fire safety seminars and workshops, publicity street counters, fire safety carnivals, publicity activities in rural areas during Ching Ming and Chung Yeung Festivals, distribution of“Three Treasures for Fire Protection" to residents, and thus to nurture the culture of fire safety in the District. In response to global climate change and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events in Hong Kong, the committee and the Fire Services Department have been actively enhancing disaster preparedness awareness among residents in the district.
With the establishment of the Fire Services Department Community Collaboration Network, the District Fire Safety Committee would act as the bridge between the Fire Services Department and the members of the public. Our committee stands ready to shoulder the mission in further strengthening the liaison and cooperation among different relevant parties, as well as fire prevention and disaster preparedness awareness promotion. We endeavor in spreading the message of fire safety to every corner of the community.
Last but not least, I would like to sincerely thank all our Committee members for spending their valuable time and making use of their experiences and liaison network to proactively participate in promoting the importance of fire safety in the district and educating citizens from all walks of life to acquire the knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness effectively and efficiently.
