DFSC (Sha Tin District)
Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC

As a member of the Sha Tin District Fire Safety Committee, I and the other committee members shoulder a great responsibility.  With a population of over 700,000, Sha Tin is the most populous administrative district in Hong Kong and a fully developed new town, primarily designated for residential use.  It features a mix of high-rise private developments and public housing estates, as well as 48 villages which are rich in local culture.  Additionally, Sha Tin has 4 industrial zones: Tai Wai, Fo Tan, Siu Lek Yuen, and Shek Mun.  Sha Tin is also home to numerous country parks.  The combination of extensive construction and natural areas increases the risk of fires during extreme weather, making it crucial for us to emphasize fire prevention and safety education.

We place great importance on fire safety promotion in schools.  As a part of the education system, schools are vital venues for disseminating fire safety knowledge.  We collaborate with local primary and secondary schools to conduct fire safety education programs, which include lectures on fire knowledge, evacuation drills, and fire emergency exercises.  Through these activities, students not only learn basic fire safety knowledge but also practice how to remain calm and react swiftly during a fire, ensuring their own safety and that of others.  We hope that students will share this knowledge with their families, encouraging parents to pay more attention to fire safety and fostering a community-wide awareness.

We also work with owners' corporations, management committees, and property management companies to organize fire safety talks, providing professional advice and guidance on fire prevention.  These activities assist these parties in developing effective fire safety plans and promote cooperation and mutual assistance among residents, creating a safer community environment.  By strengthening community cohesion, we aim to raise fire safety awareness and work together to reduce fire risks.

Furthermore, we have launched a program to distribute independent smoke detectors to vulnerable families and elderly individuals living alone.  These detectors can issue alerts in the event of a fire, helping residents evacuate in a timely manner and ensuring their safety.  Through this program, we not only enhance the safety of high-risk groups but also convey care and warmth to the community.

Looking ahead, we will continue to deepen fire safety education efforts in Sha Tin.  We aim to expand collaboration with the government and various sectors of society to create a comprehensive fire safety network.  We firmly believe that only by fully harnessing the power of the community can we establish a safer living environment, allowing every resident to live with greater peace of mind.  I will dedicate myself to promoting these efforts to build a safe and beautiful future for our community.
