Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC
Sai Kung, often known as the "Backyard of Hong Kong," is renowned for its rolling hills, serene islands and charming villages brimming with rural character, alongside the vibrant new town and industrial estate of Tseung Kwan O. The unique blend of urban and rural elements presents distinct challenges to fire safety and disaster prevention efforts.
Due to historical reasons, village residents in Sai Kung have been permitted by the government to conduct burials at designated village sites. During the traditional Ching Ming and Chung Yeung festivals, countless filial descendants visit hillside cemeteries to pay respects to their ancestors. Recognizing that these two festivals are high-risk periods for hill fires, the Sai Kung District Fire Safety Committee collaborates annually with the Fire Services Department, Sai Kung District Office, Sai Kung District Fire Safety Ambassadors Honorary Presidents. During these times, we organize publicity campaigns to locations such as Sai Kung Town Centre and Junk Bay Chinese Permanent Cemetery to promote the message of preventing hill fires.
As Sai Kung continues to develop, the rise in population highlights the importance of household fire safety. To address this, the Sai Kung District Fire Safety Committee conducts various fire safety promotion activities. These include distributing standalone smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, accompanied by demonstrations by firefighters on their installation and use. The goal is to enhance residents' awareness of fire safety and equip them with the skills to manage small fires. Moreover, in view of the frequent extreme weather in recently years, the Sai Kung District Fire Safety Committee also conduct promotion events to fishermen in harbour and mooring area within the district which aims to promote disaster preparedness of the residents.
Our committee remains committed to organizing diverse fire safety and disaster prevention promotion activities in collaboration with various government departments and organizations. We hope the community will always stay vigilant against fire hazards and natural disasters, working together to create a safe and beautiful Sai Kung for everyone.
