Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC
As located at the city's northernmost region nearby Shenzhen, with the population of around 340,000 people, North District is not only the forefront to facilitate further cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, but also represents one of the important compositions in Northern Metropolis.
Unlike some districts in Hong Kong, North District is the community where the new meets the old nurturing diversity. We have commercial units, industrial buildings, private properties, public estates, village houses and also Wo Hop Shek Cemetery, the largest graveyard in Hong Kong. The old and the new assembles, together with the blending of urban and rural areas. As a result, to promote fire safety awareness, we should take into account the difference of fire prevention education methods between new units and old buildings. We need to publicize the importance of hill fire prevention to grave sweepers during specific seasons, such as Ching Ming Festival and Chung Yeung Festival. Our work is challenging, yet meaningful as well.
North District has Lung Shan and Fung Shui, representing the dragon and phoenix, the traditional symbols of good fortune. Given the old days studying and growing up in North District, I have particularly deep feelings towards the community. It is my great honor to serve as the chairman of the District Fire Safety Committee, to make contributions to hill fire prevention and lifesaving work. As the Northern Metropolis is developing, our efforts become more important. Let us work with Fire Services Department, North District Office and other stakeholders together to create a safer and cozier community for North District residents.
