Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC
Kwun Tong was once the main district for industrial development in Hong Kong. After years of drastic alteration, aged industrial buildings have been transformed into modern commercial and residential premises. It becomes a bustling community for commercial activities as well as a home with approximately 670,000 residents. Along with its rapid development, traditional villages and squatter areas such as Lei Yue Mun and Cha Kwo Ling still exist. The reconstruction of Kwun Tong has brought immense opportunities. However, the wide range of building combinations is causing a threat to fire safety.
In order to ensure Kwun Tong a place where people enjoy and stay prosperous, fire safety is always a matter of concern. With the establishment of Kwun Tong District Fire Safety Committee, the Committee has been committed to promote fire safety to the public and arouse the awareness of the importance of fire prevention. To foster the knowledge of fire safety with children at an early age, the Committee has been working closely and constantly with the Fire Service Department to arrange numerous interesting activities such as paying visits to the Fire Stations, organizing Fire Safety Coloring contest and Slogan Creation competition as well as Fire Safety Workshops. To effectively bring the knowledge of fire safety to residents and commuters in Kwun Tong, the Committee is actively and frequently publishing fire prevention information and practicing fire drills to show how a building should evacuate and other emergencies. Fire safety initiatives have been successfully extended to the whole community through Kwun Tong District Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Carnival cum Parade. It is most welcomed by the public which is knowledgeable about fire prevention and the three basic skills of emergency preparedness - “Extinguish and Prevent Fire”, “Self-help and Help Others”and“Escape and Evacuate”.
Fire Safety is undoubtedly utmost importance to all. The Committee is dedicated to promoting fire safety to people from all walks of life through diversified initiatives with the ultimate goal of building a safe and promising community.
