DFSC (Kwai Tsing District)
Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC

Kwai Tsing District is a diverse and vibrant community. Originally a small fishing village, it has transformed through urban development into an area that encompasses residential neighborhoods, public housing, large shopping malls, industrial zones, oil depots, shipyards and countryside hiking trails. The Kwai Tsing Container Terminal serves as Hong Kong's most important logistics hub, handling approximately 20 million standard containers each year. It has become a key nexus for goods trade in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta, as well as conducting logistics trade with regions such as Africa and South America. Xia Baolong, the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, emphasized at a business forum that "Hong Kong would not be Hong Kong without a port" highlighting the importance of the shipping and logistics industry in the region. In addition, Kwai Tsing District boasts a well-developed transportation network, including notable infrastructures such as the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, Route 3, Route 8 and the Airport Railway, making it one of the core hubs for transportation in Hong Kong.

The uniqueness of Kwai Tsing District lies in its diverse infrastructure and activity patterns. However, this diversity also makes fire safety a critical concern. Given the varied building structures and uses within the district, fire prevention and emergency preparedness are essential measures to protect residents and important facilities. The Kwai Tsing Fire Safety Committee is well aware of this challenge and prioritizes raising fire safety awareness and implementing preventive measures.

To mitigate potential risks, the Fire Services Department conducts regular drills at key locations in Kwai Tsing District, such as the Tsing Ma Bridge and Kwai Chung Container Terminal, each year to enhance emergency response capabilities. The committee also participates in special emergency drills at local chemical plants to ensure that relevant units are adequately prepared for specific risks.

Each year, the Kwai Tsing Fire Safety Committee collaborates with the Fire Services Department to hold a series of activities aimed at raising residents' fire safety awareness and providing basic fire prevention skills. This year, we partnered with community service and Care Teams to conduct the "Visit to Elderly Living Alone" initiative, addressing the fire safety needs of elderly residents. Additionally, we organized the "Fire Safety Promotion Campaign for Three Nil Buildings" and co-organized the "Kwai Tsing Fire Safety Carnival 2025 cum Tsing Yi Fire Station Open Day" with the Fire Services Department. Through these activities, we distribute fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to the community, provide knowledge on the "Three Basic Skills on Emergency Preparedness" and conduct fire emergency drills to enhance community awareness of disaster preparedness.

Looking ahead, the Kwai Tsing Fire Safety Committee hopes to continue serving as a bridge for communication, promoting information exchange and fire safety, and protecting every resident. Let us work together to create a safe and harmonious living environment!
