Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC
Central and Western District Fire Safety Committee (the Committee) has all along been actively promoting fire safety and other building safety messages within the District. The Committee organizes a variety of fire safety education and promotional activities. In August and September 2024, the Committee has successfully organized the "Central and Western District Fire Safety Ambassador Training Courses" and the "Central and Western District ‘Press to shock – Save a life’ CPR & AED Courses." Not only inviting the residents of Central and Western District to participate, the courses were extended to include members of Central and Western District Care Teams, as well as Filipino and Indonesian domestic helpers. The participants were highly engaged and often completed the courses. They were successfully appointed as Fire Safety Ambassadors, joining hands in promoting fire safety messages in the community.
Furthermore, in October and November 2024, the Committee held the "Central and Western District Fire Safety Slogan Design Competition" and the "Central and Western District Fire Safety Poster Coloring Competition" for primary and secondary school students in the district. These activities aim to cultivate important fire safety messages among our younger generation at an early age. One of the key events of this year—the "Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and the 14th Central and Western District Festival Series—Central and Western District Fire Equipment Exhibition and Family Carnival"—will be held on 8th December 2024 at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park in Sheung Wan. This event will integrate fire safety messages into a variety of exciting programs, allowing families to enjoy fun activities while simultaneously raising their fire safety awareness, achieving the goal of preventing fire hazards before they “ignite”.
In addition to promotional and educational efforts, the Committee also takes practical steps to safeguard the well-being of local residents. As there are a considerable number of "aging" buildings in the Central and Western District and hence, a higher risk of fire hazard. Fire detectors can alert occupants at an early stage when fire breaks out, providing more time for evacuation and preventing people from being trapped due to dense smoke and high temperature. Therefore, the Committee will continue to collaborate with the District Care Teams to distribute fire detectors to those households in need and residents of buildings where fires have occurred, thereby enhancing the protection of residents' lives and property.
