  • Date: 2024年9月29日
  • Venue: Tai O Sam Chung, Sha Tsai Meen and Tai Ping Street

The Hong Kong Fire Services Department, together with the Islands District Office, Islands District Fire Safety Committee, Civil Aid Services, and Auxiliary Medical Service, held an inter-departmental fire drill on 29th September, 2024. Members of the Islands District Council, the Care Team, and local community leaders were also invited to attend as observers.

The exercise simulated a fire breaking out in a stilt house during cooking, with the fire and smoke quickly spreading to nearby units, trapping a large number of residents in need of rescue. Participating departments swiftly dispatched rescue personnel to initiate the rescue operation. Drones and firefighting vessels were used to assist in locating and rescuing missing persons, and AEDs were utilized for treatment of the injured.

Following the drill, Mr. Li Wai Cheung, Divisional  Commander 'Lantau' (New Territories South), gave a briefing subsequent to completion of the exercise. A representative from CLP Power shared advice on home electrical safety with the participants.

Subsequently, the Fire Services Department, along with Islands District Officer Miss YEUNG Wai Sum, Amy, JP, led the T01 Lantau Care Team and Fire Services Volunteer Team to visit residents in the stilt house areas. They installed smoke detectors, distributed portable fire extinguishers, and reminded residents to pay attention to fire safety. Additionally, members of the Islands District Fire Safety Committee and local leaders distributed leaflets and fire safety promotional materials to residents in Tai O, reminding them to be cautious of fire sources and to cherish the countryside environment during the Chung Yeung Festival when paying respects to ancestors.

Ambulance personnel provided treatment to the casualties at the triage point during the exercise.
